  • Author: Debbie
  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This French toast bagel recipe is the perfect sweet breakfast! Crispy on the outside, soft inside, with cinnamon and vanilla flavors, it’s quick, easy, and totally irresistible.

Ingredients

Scale

For the Custard Mixture:

  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • ¼ cup heavy cream (optional)
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • A pinch of salt

For Cooking:

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 teaspoon oil

Toppings (Optional):

  • Maple syrup
  • Powdered sugar
  • Fresh berries
  • Whipped cream

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Custard: In a shallow bowl, whisk eggs, milk, cream, vanilla, brown sugar, cinnamon, and salt.
  2. Dip the Bagels: Slice the bagels in half and dip each side into the egg mixture for 5-7 seconds. Let excess drip off.
  3. Cook to Perfection: Heat a skillet over medium heat. Add butter and a little oil. Place the bagels cut-side down and cook for 2-3 minutes per side until golden brown.
  4. Serve: Plate the French toast bagels and top with syrup, fruit, and any desired toppings.

Notes

  • For extra crispiness, cook slightly longer over medium-low heat.
  • Try a stuffed version by adding cream cheese or Nutella between bagel halves before dipping.

  • Day-old bagels work best as they absorb the egg mixture without getting too soggy.
